Our Opportunity

Work Location: Hedland Operations – located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 8 Days On / 6 Off – FIFO from Perth or Residential Port Hedland

 

We’re looking for a motivated Locomotive Reliability Engineer to join our Reliability Engineering team at Hedland Operations.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who’s passionate about problem-solving, continuous improvement, and learning in a fast-paced heavy haul rail environment. You’ll be part of a collaborative team focused on improving the performance, reliability, and safety of our Locomotive fleet — with plenty of opportunities to develop your technical capability and make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support investigations into Locomotive and engineering failures, helping identify root causes and practical solutions.
  • Contribute to reliability reviews and improvement initiatives aimed at reducing defects and increasing asset performance.
  • Assist with reliability improvement projects from planning through to implementation.
  • Work closely with operations, procurement, and maintenance teams to support safe and reliable rail operations.
  • Analyse condition monitoring data to identify trends and recommend maintenance improvements.
  • Support enhancements to condition monitoring systems and asset protection technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise Locomotive maintenance practices and processes.
  • Assist with life cycle planning activities, including asset monitoring and replacement strategies.
  • Contribute to asset management best practices within the AM&E team.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • 5 years minimum experience working with Locomotives
  • Previous experience in engineering, asset management, maintenance, or reliability-related roles.
  • Exposure to heavy industry, rail, mining, or similar operational environments is advantageous.
  • Understanding of reliability principles and asset management concepts.
  • Familiarity with condition monitoring systems and maintenance data analysis is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and a collaborative mindset.
