Our Opportunity

 

Work Location:  Perth.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.


Roster:  Monday to Friday.

 

The Governance and Compliance Officer supports the delivery and ongoing operation of Fortescue’s global business integrity compliance programs.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Governance and Compliance, this role assists in implementing and maintaining key compliance frameworks, contributing to ethical business conduct and adherence to applicable laws, regulations and internal standards across all jurisdictions in which Fortescue operates.

 

The successful candidate will be a reliable and detail-oriented compliance professional who is eager to develop their expertise, contributes positively to team outcomes and supports the effective delivery of Fortescue’s global compliance programs.

Key Responsibilities

 

Program Support and Coordination

  • Support the day-to-day operation of Fortescue’s business integrity compliance programs, including:
    • Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
    • Gifts and Entertainment
    • Conflicts of Interest
    • Sanctions and Trade Controls
    • Whistleblower.
  • Assist in maintaining policies, procedures, registers and guidance materials.
  • Support periodic reviews and updates to ensure programs remain current and effective.

Risk and Assurance Support

  • Assist in the coordination of compliance risk assessments across global operations.
  • Support monitoring activities, including data collection, tracking and reporting on compliance metrics.
  • Maintain compliance registers and support control tracking.
  • Assist with audit preparation, information gathering and follow-up actions.

Advisory and Stakeholder Support

  • Provide first-line guidance to employees on routine compliance queries, escalating more complex matters as required.
  • Support engagement with internal stakeholders across corporate and operational teams.
  • Assist in preparing materials for reporting to management.

Training, Culture and Awareness

  • Support the delivery of compliance training and awareness initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of communication materials and campaigns.
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote a strong ethical and speak-up culture.

Investigations and Case Management Support

  • Assist with the intake and triage of compliance concerns and whistleblower reports.
  • Support investigations through information gathering, documentation and case tracking.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with policy and legal requirements.

Team and Operational Support

  • Contribute to the effective operation of a global compliance team.
  • Support team priorities, planning and administrative coordination.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, tools and ways of working.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Undertake risk-based due diligence on Fortescue counterparties.
  • Accurate and timely maintenance of compliance registers and records.
  • High-quality support for compliance reporting, training and program activities.
  • Effective handling and escalation of compliance queries and issues.
  • Strong collaboration with stakeholders and team members.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • 2+ years’ experience in governance, compliance, legal, risk or a related function
  • Exposure to business integrity compliance programs
  • Tertiary qualification in law, business, risk or related discipline.
