Senior Structural Geologist

Our Opportunity

 

Work Location:  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster:  Monday to Friday

 

We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Structural Geologist to join our team, supporting both current mining operations and future development projects. Reporting to the Lead Structural Geologist, this role provides technical expertise and guidance across structural geology modelling, geotechnical design support, and mine planning activities.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work across operational, mine planning, and development horizons while contributing to innovative and technically challenging projects within a supportive and high-performing environment.

 

Based in Perth, the role offers flexibility options alongside regular site engagement to maintain strong operational connection and collaboration with stakeholders. We are open to discussing flexible work arrangements to support work-life balance and individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structural geology studies to support short, medium, and long-term mine planning activities, including the 10-year mine plan.
  • Develop and maintain structural geology models that support geotechnical design and operational decision-making.
  • Provide input into drilling programs to ensure structural geology targets and opportunities are considered.
  • Collect, analyse, interpret, and report on structural data obtained through field mapping, core logging, televiewer data, and other geological datasets.
  • Provide trusted technical advice and collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop scopes and schedules to ensure key deliverables are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and innovation opportunities within structural geology and provide recommendations to the business.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships across technical, operational, and project teams to support knowledge sharing and informed decision-making.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of structural geology standards, systems, guidelines, and quality assurance processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in structural geology within iron ore operations, with exposure to other commodities viewed favourably.
  • Experience in structural and geological modelling, open pit structural mapping, reconciliation, and geological data analysis.
  • Strong data management capabilities and experience working with geological and geophysical datasets.
  • Proficiency using GIS packages, CAD software, and structural geology software for data analysis and presentation.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and managing structural geology systems and processes across different mining project phases.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and technical report writing skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously, and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes.
