The Senior Manager, Joint Ventures & Business Planning is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of Fortescue’s Metals Portfolio strategy while representing and advancing Fortescue’s strategic and commercial interests within Mining Operations.

 

Reporting to the Group Manager Commercial, the position provides direct support to senior leadership in portfolio decision making, joint venture business management, governance and execution of strategic priorities, ensuring alignment between Fortescue’s long-term objectives and operational delivery. This role will operate at the intersection of portfolio strategy, strategic planning, capital allocation and asset-level commercial oversight.

 

The position is accountable for driving alignment between operational plans, corporate objectives and capital allocation priorities while providing strategic support to senior leadership on portfolio-wide decisions.

 

Acting as a key interface between Fortescue, joint venture partners and internal stakeholders, the Senior Manager will navigate complex commercial environments to drive aligned outcomes, maximise portfolio value and enhance joint venture performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and ownership of integrated business planning for Fortescue's Mining Operations, ensuring alignment between operational priorities, corporate strategic plan and long-term value objectives.
  • Drive annual business planning processes across the Mining Operations portfolio, coordinating inputs from Operations, Finance, Commercial and Corporate functions.
  • Establish and manage portfolio performance including value-based metrics, performance tracking, risk identification and transparency of delivery against business plans.
  • Support portfolio-level decision making through strategic analysis, capital allocation assessments, business case development and executive decision support.
  • Identify, evaluate and prioritise value creation opportunities across Mining Operations Portfolio, ensuring benefits are tracked and realised.
  • Develop, implement and manage Metals Joint Venture annual and long-term plans, ensuring alignment with external partners.
  • Oversee Joint Venture performance management, including governance of operational and financial plans, commercial obligations, reporting and value delivery initiatives.
  • Manage key commercial agreements and support optimisation initiatives that enhance Joint Venture performance and long-term shareholder value.
  • Lead Joint Venture governance activities, including management of Board, Board Committee and Shareholder requirements .
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Joint Venture partners, executive leadership teams and internal stakeholders to achieve aligned commercial and strategic outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 12+ years’ experience in strategy, strategic planning, commercial management, business planning, corporate development, portfolio management or related leadership roles within resources, infrastructure, energy or heavy industry sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience leading integrated business planning, strategic planning or operational performance management within large-scale mining operations, preferably across multiple assets or portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of mining value drivers, mine planning processes, operational performance metrics and portfolio optimisation principles.
  • Proven experience supporting executive-level decision making through financial analysis, business case development and strategic evaluation.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience assessing capital allocation decisions, investment opportunities and portfolio trade-offs.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience driving cross-functional integration and effectively influencing senior stakeholders across operations, finance, legal, and corporate functions to deliver strategic business outcomes.
  • Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications such as an MBA or equivalent are highly regarded.
