We are seeking an experienced and commercially-minded Finance leader to join us as Manager Finance Business Partner for Projects and Capital Portfolio for a 12 month fixed term (parental leave cover).

 

Reporting to the GM Finance Business Partnering, this role leads the Finance Business Partnering team supporting our global Projects, Major Projects and Pilbara Green Power, and provides financial governance and insight across the Group’s Capital Portfolio spanning our Metals and Operations, Growth and Energy and Decarbonisation priorities.

 

This dynamic role partners closely with Projects, Operations, Finance and Project Controls to strengthen project financial performance, capital planning, governance and value realisation. The role leads the financial business partnering function for Projects, providing commercial challenge and financial decision support across the project lifecycle, including expenditure and capital budgeting and forecasting, assessing and optimising value cases,  providing analytical support, ensuring consistent reporting and frameworks, and supporting business improvement opportunities.

 

The role also leads Capital Portfolio planning and reporting through Fortescue's Capital Allocation Framework. This includes managing the Capital Allocation Request Forum investment process, Sustaining Capital prioritisation across Iron Ore, facilitating the quarterly Directors Capital Review Forum, and providing capital governance advice and portfolio performance insights to leaders across Metals and Operations, Growth and Energy, and Decarbonisation.

 

This role requires strong financial and commercial acumen, excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence effectively across Projects, Finance, Operations and senior leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities

 

•    Lead the Finance Business Partnering team supporting the global Projects, Major Projects and Pilbara Green Power, driving financial performance, governance and value delivery. 
•    Lead annual budget, forecasting and reporting processes across the Projects, Major Projects, Pilbara Green Power and Capital portfolios, providing timely insights to support strategic decision-making.
•    Provide strategic financial analysis, commercial advice and decision support to the Director of Projects, Project leadership teams and other Capital Portfolio stakeholders.
•    Financial analysis and commercial support to the Director of Projects, and the broader Projects team. 
•    Lead Capital Portfolio planning and reporting as part of Fortescue's Capital Allocation Framework, supporting effective capital allocation across Metals and Operations, Growth and Energy, and Decarbonisation.
•    Manage the Capital Allocation Request Forum investment process, lead Sustaining Capital prioritisation across Iron Ore, and facilitate the quarterly Directors Capital Review Forum.
•    Provide capital governance advice, commercial insights and portfolio performance reporting to senior leaders across Metals and Operations, Growth and Energy, and Decarbonisation.
•    Ensure consistent capital and financial governance, reporting frameworks and compliance with Group Accounting Policies across the supported portfolios.
•    Lead, coach and develop team members while building strong commercial capability and a high-performance culture.
•    Work collaboratively with other Finance Business Partnering Managers and the broader Finance team to deliver enterprise priorities and consistent ways of working.
•    Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, reporting, governance and business partnering practices.
•    Lead and support key capital planning, governance and approval activities, including five-year planning inputs, forecast consolidation, Capital Expenditure Request reviews, capital approval processes and Capital Board papers.
•    Collaborate with Finance and Commercial teams to ensure capital plans, forecasts, accounting outcomes and performance reporting are aligned, accurate and supported by consistent assumptions.
•    Manage the accurate and timely completion of month end close activities.

Qualifications and Experience

 

•    Bachelor’s degree in business, commerce, finance, accounting or a related discipline.
•    CA or CPA would be highly regarded.
•    10+ years experience in Finance, Mining, Projects or other Commercial roles
•    Strong communication and team management skills
•    Demonstrated experience business partnering within a large, complex and capital-intensive organisation. 
•    Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across projects, finance, and operations.
•    Strong understanding of capital planning, investment governance and financial performance management.
•    Strong understanding of the interface and collaboration between Finance and Project Controls, including cost management, forecasting, reporting and controls.
•    Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex financial and project information into clear recommendations.
•    Demonstrated experience evaluating investment proposals and value cases, including the ability to identify key financial, commercial and delivery risks.
•    Demonstrated people leadership capability, including coaching, developing and leading high-performing teams.
•    Experience managing or supporting capital allocation, portfolio prioritisation and investment governance processes.
•    Agile and solution-focused, with a demonstrated ability to improve processes, strengthen governance and support continuous business improvement.
