Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Eliwana - Fortescue’s Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama people, located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia

 

Roster: 8 Days on / 6 Off Perth FIFO

 

Summary

Reporting to the Autonomy Coordinator, the Autonomy Specialist provides site-based technical support across the installation, maintenance and optimisation of Fortescue’s autonomy products. Embedded within the site autonomous mining systems team, this role acts as a key escalation point for complex system, equipment and operational issues, applying advanced diagnostics, fault finding and root cause analysis.

You will work closely with maintenance, operations, project and technical stakeholders to improve the safe, reliable and efficient operation of autonomous systems. The role also supports the development of site capability through coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide advanced site-based technical support and act as an escalation point for complex Autonomy and HaulX system, equipment and operational issues
  • Support installation, calibration, commissioning, validation, upgrades and component replacement activities in line with approved technical and quality requirements
  • Complete advanced diagnostics, structured fault finding and root cause analysis to identify and resolve complex, intermittent and recurring faults
  • Provide day-to-day technical and breakdown support while promoting effective maintenance practices that improve equipment reliability, availability and serviceability
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and risk management across installation, maintenance, diagnostic and technical support activities
  • Build effective relationships with site autonomous mining systems, maintenance, operations, project and technical stakeholders and provide clear technical advice
  • Coach and mentor technicians and maintenance tradespeople to build technical capability and support safe and effective self-performance
  • Provide field-based feedback to reliability, project, test, development and product teams and support technical trials, validation activities and approved changes
  • Develop and improve technical reports, troubleshooting guides, work instructions and other knowledge-sharing documentation
  • Manage multiple technical priorities with limited supervision while maintaining effective handovers, high-quality workmanship and clear communication of technical status, risks and actions

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Relevant trade qualification in electrical, mechanical, communications, networking or a related technical discipline
  • Current experience at Advanced Autonomous Technician level within Fortescue, or a minimum of three years’ experience maintaining and supporting HaulX products, autonomous mining systems or equivalent technologies
  • Demonstrated experience installing, calibrating, commissioning and maintaining fleet management, autonomy or related mobile technology systems
  • Advanced experience diagnosing complex mobile technology faults and completing structured root cause analysis with minimal support
  • Advanced understanding of mobile autonomy systems and proficiency across Autonomy and HaulX product portfolios
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical, electronic, networking and control interfaces relevant to autonomous and fleet management systems
  • Knowledge of global navigation satellite systems, Wi-Fi and LTE networking principles, CAN bus and serial communications used on mobile mining equipment
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, system architecture, logs, network information and equipment behaviour to identify faults and corrective actions
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor technicians or tradespeople and work effectively across maintenance, operations, engineering, project and technology teams
  • Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma, OEM or vendor-specific autonomy training, or formal root cause analysis, reliability or continuous improvement training is highly regarded
