Play a defining role in shaping the next generation of integrated green energy and industrial development in the Pilbara. As Green Industrial Ecosystems Studies Manager, you will lead the strategic studies that underpin Fortescue's Pilbara Green Industrial Ecosystem (GIE), bringing together renewable energy generation, energy storage, transmission and emerging industrial demand to develop an integrated, commercially robust pathway for future investment and growth.

Reporting to the Group Manager Green Grids and Global Energy, this highly influential role will lead the GIE through Concept and Pre-Feasibility Study stages, establishing the long-term Life of Energy Assets plan and ensuring complex development options are assessed through rigorous technical, commercial and economic analysis. Working across multidisciplinary teams, senior executives and external partners, you will bring structure, strategic insight, and engineering discipline to major investment decisions. This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the development of an integrated industrial ecosystem spanning green hydrogen, ammonia, green iron and green compute, helping translate ambitious energy and industrial opportunities into practical, investment-ready development strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Green Industrial Ecosystems Studies Team through Concept and Pre-Feasibility Study stages, ensuring integrated, high-quality technical and commercial outcomes.
  • Establish, maintain and govern the Pilbara GIE base case and Life of Energy Assets plan, integrating renewable generation, firming, transmission and industrial energy demand.
  • Lead the annual planning and scenario evaluation process, managing assumptions, constraints, sensitivities and approved changes to ensure consistent and transparent investment assessments.
  • Oversee integrated technical, commercial and economic studies, including capital and operating cost estimates, project economics, development schedules and stage-gate requirements.
  • Direct option and trade-off studies across technology selection, infrastructure sizing and development sequencing, assessing impacts on value, risk, schedule and overall system performance.
  • Coordinate cross functional workstreams and collaborate with Engineering, Energy Operations, Commercial, Finance, Strategy, Projects and Approvals teams to maintain an integrated development plan.
  • Prepare investment recommendations, executive reports, Board papers and stage-gate documentation that clearly communicate development pathways, key risks, value drivers and investment decisions.
  • Engage with senior leaders, technical consultants, renewable energy developers, utilities and government stakeholders to align study outcomes with strategic priorities and future development opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary studies for major energy, resources, infrastructure or complex industrial developments.
  • Demonstrated success delivering Concept, Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Studies for major capital projects, including stage-gate governance and investment evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of integrated energy systems, renewable generation, transmission, energy storage and emerging low-emissions technologies such as green hydrogen, ammonia and green iron.
  • Proven ability to integrate engineering, commercial, environmental, infrastructure and regulatory considerations into robust development strategies and investment assessments.
  • Experience managing engineering consultants, complex study programs, technical deliverables, budgets and schedules across multiple workstreams.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including project economics, capital and operating cost estimates, risk assessment and investment decision frameworks.
  • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence senior executives, government representatives and commercial partners.
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science, Economics, Project Management or a related discipline, with postgraduate qualifications or relevant professional accreditation highly regarded.
