Our Opportunity

Work Location:  Perth, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster:  Monday to Friday.

** 24 month Fixed Term **

Play a pivotal role in shaping the commercial foundations of one of Fortescue's most ambitious green energy and industrial development initiatives. As Green Industrial Ecosystems Principal Commercial, you will help unlock the commercial potential of the Pilbara Green Industrial Ecosystem (GIE), identifying and evaluating opportunities across renewable electricity, green hydrogen, ammonia, green iron and emerging green compute markets. Combining deep commercial insight with sophisticated financial and techno-economic modelling, you will influence the investment strategies and commercial pathways that underpin the development of an integrated, low-emissions industrial ecosystem.

Reporting to the Green Industrial Ecosystems Studies Manager, this highly influential role sits at the intersection of energy markets, commercial strategy and major project investment. You will translate market intelligence, pricing forecasts and emerging offtake opportunities into robust financial models, commercial scenarios and investment recommendations that support critical business decisions. Working closely with commercial, technical and executive stakeholders, you will provide the financial rigour and strategic insight needed to assess development options, maximise commercial value and guide the Pilbara GIE through Concept and Pre-Feasibility stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, maintenance and governance of integrated techno-economic and financial models for the Pilbara Green Industrial Ecosystem, incorporating revenue, capital and operating cost assumptions.
  • Identify, assess and value commercial offtake opportunities across electricity, green hydrogen, ammonia, green iron and green compute, evaluating potential contribution to the broader GIE investment case.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive offtake scenarios, including demand volumes, pricing, ramp-up profiles, contract structures and counterparty considerations, aligned with the Life of Energy Assets plan.
  • Translate energy market intelligence, pricing forecasts and commercial insights into credible investment assumptions, financial projections and scenario evaluations.
  • Assess commercial structures, offtake agreements and power purchase agreements, considering pricing mechanisms, bankability, counterparty risk and long-term value creation.
  • Undertake financial and commercial analysis of development options, including NPV, IRR, WACC, sensitivity assessments and investment risk, to support robust decision-making.
  • Prepare high-quality commercial analysis, financial recommendations and investment materials for Concept and Pre-Feasibility stage gates, Executive, Board and Investment Committee consideration.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Energy, Strategy, Sales and Marketing, Finance and technical workstreams to evaluate commercial opportunities, optimise offtake pathways and support integrated investment decisions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience in techno-economic analysis and financial modelling across energy, resources, infrastructure or complex industrial developments.
  • Demonstrated expertise evaluating and structuring commercial offtake opportunities, power purchase agreements or long-term energy and commodity contracts.
  • Proven capability developing and defending investment-grade financial models, incorporating revenue forecasts, capital and operating costs, NPV, IRR, WACC and sensitivity analysis.
  • Strong understanding of energy and emerging green commodity markets, including renewable electricity, green hydrogen, ammonia, green iron and associated industrial demand.
  • Experience translating market intelligence, pricing forecasts and commercial assumptions into robust investment scenarios and strategic recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of integrated energy systems, project economics, commercial structuring, counterparty risk and investment decision frameworks.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial and commercial information to senior executives and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Commerce or a related discipline, with postgraduate qualifications or professional accreditation such as CFA or CPA highly regarded.
