Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Rolling Stock Maintenance Wheel Shop Supervisor, this position will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Wheel Shop through preventative, statutory and breakdown maintenance of fixed plant equipment. This role will also contribute to the operation of specialised wheel machining and assembly equipment critical to maintaining Fortescue's rolling stock assets and supporting the reliability of our rail operations.

 

Working within a high-performing maintenance team, you will play a key role in driving equipment reliability, continuous improvement and safe execution of maintenance activities across the workshop.

 

Work Location: Hedland Operations (Port) Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 7 Days | 7 Nights | 14 Off 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative, statutory and breakdown maintenance on Wheel Shop fixed plant and associated equipment.
  • Operate specialised workshop equipment, including wheel and axle lathes, wheel presses and CNC machinery, in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Diagnose and rectify electrical faults to minimise downtime and maximise equipment reliability.
  • Execute weekly planned maintenance activities in line with work management schedules and statutory requirements.
  • Complete maintenance activities safely and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
  • Support equipment reliability initiatives through effective fault finding, troubleshooting and defect elimination.
  • Assist Supervisors and Engineering personnel with root cause analysis investigations and corrective actions.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to improve equipment performance, safety and productivity.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders within SAP and associated maintenance systems.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture by actively participating in safety interactions, toolbox meetings and risk management activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Electrical Trade Qualification with a current WA Electrical Workers Licence.
  • Previous experience in fixed plant maintenance, workshop operations, rolling stock maintenance or heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience fault finding and maintaining industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience with PLCs, instrumentation and industrial control systems (highly desirable).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex electrical faults.
  • Experience working with preventative and breakdown maintenance programs.
  • Proficiency using SAP, Fiori, BMS and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance management processes and safe work practices.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, continuous improvement and equipment reliability.
  • Ability to work effectively within a small team environment and contribute positively to team performance.
