An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer - Software & Hardware to join the Motorsport & Advanced Engineering department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.
About the role
To facilitate the development and delivery of embedded control system solutions within motorsport and advanced engineering programmes, building on a strong technical background. Coordinate delivery of embedded control system (HW and SW) and manage stakeholders.
What you will do
- Involvement, where necessary, in all aspects of the development and delivery of embedded control system (software and hardware) for FZ. This covers specific activities such as design, implementation, simulation, testing and calibration.
- Development of strategies for deploying embedded software/hardware that meets customer requirements and deadlines
- Development of FZ standards on embedded code/software/algorithm release process including MIL, SIL, HIL tests defining the tool chain required.
- Lead problem-solving and root-cause investigations.
- Represent department with other disciplines to ensure design integration and coherence.
- Provide input to project planning, scheduling, and risk management.
- Lead code reviews; shepherd features to release.
- Flexibility to accommodate project changes and achieve milestones.
- Support and mentor junior engineers within the group.
- Supporting the preparation of technical proposals for electrical, power and control system.
- Contributing to patentable IP
About you
-
- Degree-qualified with typically 10+ years’ experience of controls and software in prototype automotive, high level motorsport and/or defence.
- Deep technical knowledge in relevant engineering discipline(s).
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience with systems engineering and lifecycle management.
Highly desired:
- FPGA, embedded operating systems (RTOS, embedded Linux etc.), communications protocols (isoSPI, ethernet, CAN etc.)
- experience delivering and supporting complex products across a complete product life cycle
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and automatic code generation techniques for algorithm development and knowledge
- Strong experience in embedded SW development in C on Arm CPU architecture preferably using Xilinx or TI processors.
- Experience/understanding of test and measurement techniques is desirable.
- Knowledge/experience with CANape/CANoe/CANalyzer is desirable.
- Low-level software knowledge tied in with hands-on electronics experience.
- Knowledge of Altium or OrCad.
