An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer - Electrical Systems Test to join the Motorsport & Advanced Engineering department.
About the role
Lead the test & development of defined technical areas or subsystems within motorsport electrical systems, providing technical expertise and mentoring to junior engineers.
What you will do
- Own delivery of significant work packages or subsystems within motorsport projects.
- Create manufacturing packs and test procedures, support acceptance tests.
- Develop and validate engineering designs, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Lead the capture, definition, and management of complex system requirements test cases following INCOSE best practices.
- Support definition and maintenance of system-level KPIs, balancing performance, safety, and reliability
- Mentor and support Engineers within the team.
- Lead problem-solving and root-cause investigations.
- Interface with other disciplines to ensure design integration and coherence.
- Provide input to project planning, scheduling, and risk management.
- Develop System architectures and assist with the creation of EDS schematics with tools like Visio and VeSys.
- Perform Creepage and Clearance, short-circuit and arc flash calculations.
- Support HIL rig, and on-vehicle testing, guiding root cause analysis and correlation of test results to design intent.
- Work closely with controls and embedded software teams to define system-level software interfaces, calibration strategies, and version control across builds.
- Support hazard analyses, DFMEAs, and compliance reviews, ensuring adherence to motorsport electrical standards and HV safety regulations.
- Support the definition and control of Interface Control Documents (ICDs), including CAN DBCs, ensuring alignment between the battery system, inverter, BMS, cooling, and chassis subsystems.
- Own validation of electrical components and provide selection guidance.
About you
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechatronic, or Systems Engineering with adequate experience
- Experience in motorsports and/or advanced engineering, with a focus on electrical systems validation, component testing, and application, is preferred.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and electrical CAD tools.
- Deep understanding of BMS architecture, contactor control, and power system design & validation principles.
- Good understanding of On Vehicle Networks
- Knowledge of embedded systems interaction and CAN-based architectures.
- Proven experience in system or component-level design & validation.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of configuration, safety, and quality systems.
- Experience in leading small teams or technical tasks.
- Experience of Requirements Capture Tools, such as Siemens Polarion or IBM Rational Doors
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as System Monitor, Atlas, and CANalyser.
- Understanding of functional Safety and ISO26262
