An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer - Thermal Systems to join the Programme Engineering department.
About the role
To lead the development and delivery of thermal systems throughout the Product Development Lifecycle, providing technical expertise, leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
What will you do
- Own the technical delivery of thermal system work packages or subsystems (including water-glycol and refrigeration-based systems) within project environments.
- Develop system-level thermal architectures and define design requirements in line with project and product needs.
- Support component selection and ensure systems and components are validated and verified against requirements.
- Identify thermal risks and drive appropriate mitigation strategies throughout the design cycle.
- Mentor and support engineers within the wider engineering team.
- Lead problem-solving and root-cause investigations, proposing effective solutions and ensuring correct implementation.
- Interface with key stakeholders, including customers, development partners, and internal engineering disciplines, to ensure integrated and coherent designs.
- Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and delivery milestones.
- Deliver detailed designs, including material specifications; interpret FEA/CFD reports; and contribute to DFMEA, validation plans, and technical documentation as required.
- Conduct DFM/DFA reviews with suppliers and stakeholders, and support root-cause analysis of non-conformances.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, battery, integration, and controls engineers to ensure overall system integration and performance.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in thermal systems or thermal management engineering.
- Strong fundamental understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
- Proven experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting complex thermal systems and components.
- Experience leading technical delivery of thermal systems within a project environment.
- Background in product development from concept through to production.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of configuration management, safety, and quality systems.
