Superintendent Environment - Gabon

Reporting to Manager Environment – Belinga Studies and Approvals ,this role is responsible for leading and mentoring the Ivindo site Environment team, ensuring exploration and study programs in Gabon are executed in accordance with relevant environmental approvals and legislation and implementing the appropriate Environmental Management System. The role will actively seek and implement opportunities for alignment and consistency in environmental management across the different operational work fronts.
This position would be hired as an international direct hire under Ivindo.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop on site Gabonese Environmental Advisors to deliver the site environmental monitoring programs, licence obligation and reporting requirements
- Provide technical direction and support for onsite environmental personnel, ensuring international quality standards are met
- Provide direction to and influence Site Management teams to ensure environmental compliance onsite
- Prepare and submit secondary environmental approval applications
- Ensure a safe working environmental for team member and contractors
- Identify opportunities to embrace technology, improve efficiency and improve environmental management outcomes
- Lead investigations into unplanned events and ensure appropriate mitigations and risk reductions actions are in place
Qualifications and Experience
- French speaking highly desirable
- Degree qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or related discipline
- Extensive knowledge of relevant environmental legislation in West Africa and its application in the resource sector
- Understanding of Environmental Management Systems
- Sound technical knowledge of key facets of environmental management within the mining industry
- Knowledge of key related factors such as Communities, Social
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in both English and French
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize effectively
- Proven leadership capability (including people and conflict management)
- Negotiation skills and ability to influence
