Our Opportunity
Work Location: Gabon, Belinga project
Roster: 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off Fixed Term Contract
Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, this role plays a critical part in the successful execution of the exploration work program. The primary responsibility is to oversee site-based sampling and drilling operations, ensuring all activities align with the company's policies and standards. A key component of the role includes training Gabonese Exploration and Graduate Geologists in iron ore geology, RC and core logging techniques, as well as data interpretation and target generation. The Senior Project Geologist is responsible for implementation of the projects exploration work program and coordinating resources across multiple exploration sites. They should have sufficient geological experience and skill to solve complex problems and ensure effective targeting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing supervision, mentoring and coaching to Project Geologists
- Lead the design and implementation of exploration programs, including mapping, surface sampling, and RC and core drill programs.
- Manage and deploy assets across multiple exploration sites across within the Project.
- Lead the development of robust geological, geochemical, and geophysical data into three-dimensional models using appropriate software leading to the generation of new targets by visualisation, interpretation and interrogation of these models.
- Lead in depth geological studies and workflows, research and analysis.
- Lead site teams to deliver accurate geological models, data, forecasts, and associated reports within agreed timeframes to provide management guidance with progress/status against forecast timeframes.
- Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, in particular drilling in sampling data and QAQC procedures
- Ensure activities are undertaken in accordance with the company’s land management system and regulatory compliance
Qualifications and Experience
Skills
- Strong geological knowledge with ability to solve complex problems and ensure effective targeting.
- Ability to design and implement project schedules.
- Strong report writing, presentation and computer skills
- Strong ability with ESRI’s Arc GIS Pro, Field Maps, Database platforms, IMDEX’s ioGAS and Seequent’s Leapfrog.
- Experience across different geological terrains and commodities preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent leadership skills
- Proven experience in managing remote exploration works or mining activities.
- High personal integrity and discretion with strong adaptability.
Experience
- Relevant experience in exploration, mining, drilling or field operations (5-10 years).
- Experience supervising drilling and data collection programs (3-5 years at Project Geologist level).
Ability to work safely and effectively in remote site conditions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology required, Master's Degree in Geology preferred.
- Supplementary training and course work preferred.
