About the Role

 

Fortescue is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Automotive Mechanical Heavy Vehicle Technician to join our Truck Shop within the Mobile Maintenance team at Christmas Creek. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing our heavy haul truck fleet, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and available to support production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, and component replacements on large-scale ancillary mining equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical faults to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Carry out repairs and inspections in accordance with manufacturer and Fortescue standards.
  • Work safely across both workshop and field service environments.
  • Complete maintenance activities in line with planned maintenance schedules.
  • Collaborate with planners, supervisors, and fellow Mobile Maintenance team members to maximise fleet availability and reliability.
  • Accurately complete maintenance documentation and work orders using SAP.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Australian recognised Heavy Vehicle, Heavy Diesel, or Automotive Mechanical Trade Qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining heavy mobile equipment within the mining or heavy industry sector.
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing large-scale mining haul trucks, including:
    • Caterpillar 777 Haul Trucks
    • Caterpillar 789 Haul Trucks
    • Caterpillar 793F Haul Trucks
    • Komatsu 930E Haul Trucks
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and powertrain systems.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, inspections, component change-outs, and major repairs.
  • Current HR Driver's Licence.
  • Forklift and Dogging tickets are desirable but not essential.
  • Experience using SAP or similar maintenance management systems is advantageous.
