Work Location: Cloudbreak - Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples. 

 

Roster: 8 days on and 6 days off

 

Reporting to the Supervisor Automation Training, this Automation Training Specialist will have passion for upskilling trade personnel and has a proven history of installing, maintaining and troubleshooting Automation products at a site level using an advanced understanding of mobile autonomy and is proficient in supporting the entire Automation Maintenance Product training portfolio.

 

This position fulfils a technical training role on an 8:6 roster when onsite and 5:2 when in Perth servicing the Mobile Maintenance Automation departments. There will be a requirement to provide site-based support to the Mobile Maintenance Automation. The Automation Training Specialist will provide guidance and mentoring to maintenance personnel, providing technical training, advice on creating documentation and provide advice for best maintenance practices.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Delivering a safe learning environment and the safe execution of all installation, maintenance and support activities
  • Efficiently communicate work scope to students and leadership
  • Represent Fortescue and Technology & Automation values by upholding the standard of work equipment care and personal work ethics
  • Provide on-site and Perth-based technical training support to Mobile Maintenance Automation teams, ensuring consistency of training delivery across roster patterns (8:6 site, 5:2 Perth)
  • Develop, review, and maintain automation maintenance training documentation, work instructions, and learning materials in collaboration with Automation SMEs to reflect current systems, standards, and best maintenance practices
  • Support continuous improvement of the Automation Maintenance training portfolio by incorporating operational feedback, lessons learned, and emerging autonomy technologies into training and assessment activities.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Network disciplines, with additional technology certifications (Cert III, Diploma) highly desirable
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or TAE40116), or commitment to obtain, with strong capability in delivering structured training and assessments
  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in automotive electrical, mechanical fitting, or heavy mobile equipment roles within the resources sector
  • Experience supporting or training personnel in fleet management systems, autonomous control systems, or mining technology environments (highly desirable)
  • Proven ability to design, deliver, and assess technical training programs, adapting delivery styles to suit varying learner capability levels
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding expertise, with the ability to teach systematic troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and safe maintenance practices
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to learners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and assessing learners, supporting progressive skill development and encouraging self-performance where appropriate
  • Proficient in MS Office, training systems, and Fortescue platforms, with the ability to develop training materials, assessments, and continuously improve personal training effectiveness.
