Autonomous Technician
Our Opportunity
Fortescue has an exciting opportunity for an Autonomous Technician to join our Mobile Maintenance Division - Autonomous Mining Systems at Christmas Creek.
This role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, diagnostics, and optimisation of Fortescue’s autonomous haulage and drilling fleets, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Work Location: Christmas Creek - Christmas Creek is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 8D / 6R / 7N / 7R – FIFO ex Perth
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support large-scale autonomous mining equipment, including haulage and drilling fleets
- Perform diagnostics, fault finding, and repairs on autonomous and connected mobile assets
- Install, configure, calibrate, and commission hardware, electrical, GPS, network, and AHS systems
- Undertake both workshop and in-pit duties as required
- Work collaboratively with all Mobile Maintenance teams to achieve 100% schedule compliance
- Support optimisation of fleet management and autonomous systems to maximise fleet efficiency and Mine Plan outcomes
- Coach and support team members on best practice maintenance of autonomous technology systems
- Ensure all work is carried out in strict accordance with Fortescue safety policies, procedures, and standards
Qualifications and Experience
- Australian-recognised Trade Certificate (preferably Heavy Duty Mechanic, Auto Electrician, or relevant electrical/electronic trade)
- Previous experience working in mining or heavy industry environments
- Experience maintaining autonomous fleets or technology-enabled mobile assets (highly desirable)
- Exposure to Caterpillar MineStar products, including Command, is highly regarded
- Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and technical documentation
- Sound understanding of Windows-based IT systems and networking principles
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- A demonstrated high regard for safety and commitment to safe work practices
