Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people. 

 

Roster: Monday - Friday, with regular travel to our Pilbara sites required (a minimum of one week per month). 

 

Reports to: General Manager People and Employee Relations, with matrix reporting to the Senior Manager Internal Communications. 

 

 

This Senior Communications Advisor is pivotal in driving and delivering internal communications for the Approvals, Communities and Services team, including employee engagement and events across a broad and diverse portfolio in Western Australia. 

 

Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will support a wide range of portfolios, including Fortescue’s Aboriginal Business Development, Approvals, Communities, Environment and Central Services functions. As part of this work, you will also be supporting our site Village and Aerodrome teams. You will navigate complex stakeholder environments, embed our unique culture and Values, and drive strong, consistent employee engagement outcomes across geographically dispersed teams, in close partnership with our corporate and site-based communications team members, as well as the business’ external communications team where necessary.  

 

This dynamic role partners closely with senior leadership to deliver clear, consistent and impactful communication of strategy and business priorities across written, visual, digital and verbal channels. You will also play a key role in the planning and delivery of internal and external events, creating meaningful experiences that connect our people and strengthen engagement. 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and deliver internal communication strategies and engaging content across company-wide channels aligned to business priorities 
  • Partner with senior leaders to translate complex operational, technical and strategic priorities into clear, engaging communications. 
  • Drive employee engagement through innovative and impactful communication approaches that reinforce Fortescue’s culture and values across dispersed teams. 
  • Support leaders in the planning and delivery of internal and external events and engagement activities (including town halls, leadership forums and site-based or community engagements), ensuring high-quality execution and alignment to strategic objectives. 
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance communication effectiveness, consistency and reach across the organisation. 
  • Ensure all communications reflect Fortescue’s Values and align with global communications, brand and market disclosure guidelines. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant demonstrated experience in internal communications, within a mix of operational (ideally within mining, energy or heavy industry) and corporate environments. 
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, digital communications or a related discipline. 
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling capability, with the ability to tailor communication for diverse audiences across the business. 
    Excellent stakeholder engagement skills for building effective working relationships. 
  • Proven experience partnering with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams. 
  • Proven ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences and communication channels. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced and dynamic environment   
  • Enthusiastic team player who is agile and responsive
