The Senior Process Control Engineer is a site-based leadership role responsible for driving plant optimisation and delivering safe, reliable and sustainable production outcomes within a complex mining/material handling environment. You will lead throughput improvement initiatives, reduce downtime events and maintain control system integrity across PLC, SCADA, communications and OT infrastructure. The role provides technical leadership and mentoring to the Process Control team, leads root cause investigations into operational delays, and applies data-driven analysis to identify and eliminate process inefficiencies while supporting the integration of new instrumentation and control system technologies to enhance overall plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead plant optimisation initiatives to improve throughput, reliability and overall plant utilisation
- Maintain and improve process safety within the control system environment
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to Process Control Engineers
- Lead investigations into operational delays and downtime events, including root cause analysis (RCA)
- Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot control system assets (PLCs, SCADA, communications, instrumentation, servers, remote I/O)
- Support and deliver control system and operational technology projects, including integration of new instrumentation and equipment
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic or Computer Engineering and current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in mining, material handling or processing industries
- Extensive experience with control system software (GE/Emerson Machine Edition/PPS, Cimplicity SCADA, Proficy Historian & Change Management, Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley RSLogix 500/5000, Schneider Unity Pro, GE/Emerson HMI)
- Strong experience with PLC hardware (RX3i, RSTi I/O, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider) and industrial communication protocols (Profibus/Profinet, EGD, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Strong understanding of IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages (LD, FBD, ST, IL, SFC) and PLC data structures (UDFB, UDT)
- Advanced fault-finding capability with desirable experience in instrumentation, ELV systems, VSD drives (ABB/Siemens), SQL and C# for data analysis
- Functional safety competency by identifying safety-critical risks are identified, documented, engineered and verified in compliance with IEC61508/IEC62061 and corporate governance requirements
