Work Location: Perth – Fortescue Hive (Remote Operations Centre) – Fortescue’s head office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people
Roster: 4D/4N/8R (4 days, 4 nights, 8 off)
*PLEASE NOTE - This opportunity will be offered on a 12-month secondment or maximum term contract
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Drill Controller to join our Perth-based Hive, operating on a 4 days, 4 nights, 8 off roster. In this role, you will remotely control and monitor multiple autonomous drill rigs across Fortescue operations in the Pilbara, ensuring safe, efficient and optimised drilling performance.
Working within a highly collaborative and technology-driven environment, you will play a critical role in supporting autonomous mining operations, leveraging advanced systems and real-time data to maximise productivity and safety outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe and efficient remote control of multiple autonomous drill rigs from the Hive
- Execute and optimise drill plans and patterns in line with operational requirements
- Monitor drill performance, system health and production targets in real time
- Maintain clear and effective communication with site-based teams including maintenance and operations personnel
- Coordinate access and ensure safe interactions between autonomous equipment and personnel in drill areas
- Upload and validate drill patterns, designs and geo-boundaries
- Accurately record and report equipment breakdowns, delays and system anomalies
- Maintain consumables tracking and reporting
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities in drilling performance and system utilisation
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with autonomous drill systems (Flanders experience highly desirable)
- Demonstrated background in manned drill operations
- Previous experience in remote operations or control room environments (highly regarded)
- Strong ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proven capability to manage multiple priorities and systems simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Strong situational awareness and commitment to safety and risk management principles
