Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Perth, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster: Monday to Friday, will consider flexible work options

 

Fortescue is seeking an Energy Modeller to join our Perth-based team and support the analysis and optimisation of our energy operations during a critical phase of growth and transition. This role plays a key part in understanding internal energy operations and broader energy market dynamics, delivering data-driven insights that inform strategic planning and quarterly forecasting.

 

In this role, you will maintain and run the PLEXOS energy model, conduct industry and market analysis, and translate complex modelling outcomes into clear, actionable insights through reports and presentations. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you’ll help improve processes, support key planning decisions, and contribute to Fortescue’s energy transition and sustainability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on the Fortescue energy operations as well as the broader industry. Including but not limited to trends, benchmarks, and risk analysis.  
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the internal operations and energy market.
  • Maintain the PLEXOS energy model assumptions
  • Run the PLEXOS energy model for the purposes of the quarterly forecasting process
  • Deliver analysis through written reports and presentations.
  • Regularly present findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, operations optimisation, and the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports.
  • Engage with stakeholders to frame and analyse key strategic planning decisions and gather critical data.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Tertiary qualified in Finance/Accounting/Engineering/Economics
  • 3+ years’ experience in a business analyst role or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ experience in the energy sector. Renewables experience is desired.
  • Ability to take complex analysis and communicate in simple concepts
  • Advanced problem-solving and business analysis techniques, with an ability to report and use metrics to communicate insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple analytical work streams.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • PLEXOS and a power management system experience desired
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
