Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster:  Monday to Friday

 

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to support the delivery of critical mining and decarbonisation approvals across our operations. This role plays a key part in enabling responsible access to ground by supporting the preparation of high-quality environmental approvals documentation under Western Australian legislation.

 

Working closely with Principals in Sustaining Approvals, you will contribute to Mine Development and Closure Proposals and navigate a dynamic approvals environment where scopes and priorities can evolve quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of high-quality Mine Development and Closure Proposals aligned with business objectives.

  • Assist in preparing approvals under Part V (Divisions 2 and 3) of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2017.

  • Participate in environmental risk assessments to inform approvals strategies and applications.

  • Support the development of Approvals Advice based on Business Scoping Documents.

  • Coordinate internal inputs from subject matter experts to ensure timely, accurate and high-quality approval submissions.

  • Work closely with schedulers to maintain accurate approvals schedules.

  • Provide clear updates on approval progress, risks and key milestones to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental approvals processes and promote innovation.

  • Undertake site visits as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • More than 5 years’ experience in an environmental role within the energy and resources industry or a relevant government department.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing approvals submissions under the WA Mining Act and Environmental Protection Act.
  • Strong knowledge of WA state and federal environmental legislation and its practical application.
  • Understanding of the Pilbara environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications and GIS software.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
