We are seeking an Environmental Advisor to join our Environment & Closure team and support the delivery of key mining and decarbonisation approvals across our operations.

 

Reporting to the Manager Environment | Sustaining Approvals, you will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of environmental approvals that enable access to ground and support Fortescue's operational and decarbonisation objectives.

 

Working within a collaborative and high-performing team, you will contribute to the preparation of approval documentation, coordinate technical inputs from subject matter experts, and assist in navigating complex regulatory requirements within a dynamic project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of Mine Development and Closure Proposals.
  • Assist in obtaining approvals under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Part V Divisions 2 and 3), Biodiversity Conservation Act 2017, and other relevant legislation.
  • Participate in environmental risk assessments to support approval applications.
  • Contribute to the development of approvals advice aligned with business planning requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage inputs from technical specialists to support timely and high-quality submissions.
  • Maintain approval schedules and track key milestones.
  • Communicate approval requirements and progress to internal stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote innovative environmental solutions.
  • Undertake site visits as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in environmental management within the resources, energy, infrastructure, consulting, or government sectors.
  • Experience preparing environmental approval submissions under Western Australian legislation.
  • Knowledge of the WA Mining Act, Environmental Protection Act, and broader environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to prioritise competing demands and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and GIS software.
  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
