Our Opportunity
Work Location: Cloudbreak - Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.
Roster: 14D14R - FIFO ex Perth, Busselton, Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland, Fitzroy Crossing and Kununurra.
Fortescue is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Fabricator to join the Structural Integrity Team at Cloudbreak. This role is responsible for the fabrication, repair, modification and maintenance of structural components across fixed plant infrastructure to ensure ongoing structural integrity, compliance and operational reliability.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, maintenance, and inspection teams to deliver high-quality fabrication outcomes aligned with Fortescue standards and site safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, modify, and repair structural steel components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications
- Conduct structural repairs on fixed plant infrastructure (conveyors, chutes, bins, walkways, platforms, handrails, etc.)
- Interpret technical drawings, welding procedures (WPS), and work instructions
- Perform cutting, grinding, welding, gouging, and fitting activities to a high standard
- Assist with implementation of engineered structural upgrades and integrity improvement projects
- Work collaboratively with Structural Integrity Inspectors and Engineers
- Ensure compliance with Fortescue safety standards, procedures, and quality requirements
- Complete documentation including work orders, risk assessments (JHA/JSA), and inspection reports
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
- Identify and report structural defects or potential integrity risks
Qualifications and Experience
- Trade qualification in Engineering Fabrication (Cert III Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience in heavy industry, mining, or fixed plant environments
- Proven structural steel fabrication and repair experience
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- High level of safety awareness and commitment to safe work practices
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Working at Heights and Confined Space (or ability to obtain)
- Experience working within Structural Integrity programs (desirable)
- Dogging/Rigging ticket (desirable)
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence (desirable)
- Forklift ticket (desirable)
- Experience with wear plate, hardfacing, and heavy section welding (desirable)
