Fortescue is seeking a Heritage Compliance Field Officer to join our Cultural Heritage team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside Traditional Custodians, internal teams and external stakeholders to help protect Aboriginal cultural heritage while supporting Fortescue's operations across the Pilbara.

In this hands-on, field-based role, you'll play a key part in ensuring our heritage commitments are met through collaboration, compliance, and respectful engagement with First Nations communities.

Reporting to the Heritage Compliance Supervisor, you will coordinate and support heritage field activities while ensuring compliance with the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021, Land Access Agreements, Heritage Sub Committee commitments, and Fortescue's heritage management requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate heritage surveys, monitoring programs and field activities alongside Traditional Custodians and specialist consultants.
• Support the protection and management of heritage places across operational and project areas.
• Authorise on-site works in accordance with heritage compliance requirements and Land Use Certificates.
• Build strong, respectful relationships with Traditional Owners and internal stakeholders.
• Conduct heritage compliance inspections, audits and investigations.
• Prepare accurate compliance documentation and reports.
• Maintain heritage records and Business Management Systems (BMS).
• Identify and escalate heritage risks or compliance issues.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative and safety-focused team culture.

Qualifications and Experience

• Field-based experience or a qualification in Archaeology, Anthropology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience working with Traditional Owners or First Nations communities (highly regarded).
• Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A collaborative, safety-first approach and confidence using Microsoft Office.

   

  This is a hands-on field role requiring travel across remote Pilbara locations. You'll be comfortable:

• Working 12-hour shifts in hot, physically demanding conditions.
• Travelling on remote, multi-day field trips.
• Walking across uneven terrain while following safe work practices and wearing PPE.
