High Voltage Electrician - Mine Infrastructure
Our Opportunity
Location: Eliwana Mine, Pilbara, WA (PKKP traditional lands – 90 km west of Tom Price)
Roster: 8 Days / 6 Rest – 7 Nights / 7 Rest
Fortescue is seeking an experienced High Voltage (HV) Electrician to join the Mine Infrastructure team at Eliwana. This role is critical in maintaining and managing HV power systems that support mine dewatering infrastructure, HV fast charging systems for haul trucks, and the reliable supply of power to the HME electric fleet.The role requires strong technical expertise in HV electrical infrastructure, switching programs, fault finding, and HV/LV distribution networks. You will work closely with mining, maintenance, and infrastructure teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery, minimising disruption to mining operations while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Report to the HV Electrical Supervisor and manage energising and de-energising of HV power supply to dewatering systems, HV fast chargers, and HME electric fleet infrastructure.
- Conduct all statutory testing, inspections, and recording of HV electrical installations, cabling, and associated infrastructure.
- Work closely with mining and maintenance teams to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment operating in and around HV assets.
- Ensure all HV electrical maintenance activities are undertaken safely and in a coordinated manner, in compliance with site standards, Australian Standards, and WA Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations
- Complete electrical work orders, including recording work completed, defects identified, and any remedial actions required.
- Ensure daily work completed is accurately reflected in SAP work orders and time confirmations
- Create notifications and work orders for all unplanned or breakdown maintenance conducted outside of the current weekly plan.
- Maintain statutory electrical logbooks for HV installations and electrical work as required.
- Actively promote and role-model Zero Harm principles within the team.
- Assist with maintaining SWIs, contributing to JHAs, and completing Take Control Cards.
- Scope upcoming work, estimate resource requirements, and liaise with suppliers and OEMs for parts, materials, and technical support
- Lead by Fortescue values and drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- WA Electrical Licence (Grade A)
- High Voltage Switching Certificate
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as an HV Electrician
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the mining industry
- Previous HV/LV distribution experience
- Extensive knowledge of HV electrical infrastructure, fault finding, and switching programs
- Strong understanding of HV/LV distribution networks and power systems
- Knowledge of WA Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations and relevant HV legislation
Desirable
- Electrical experience in the mining industry with exposure to infrastructure or utilities systems
- Experience supporting dewatering systems, pump stations, and associated power supply infrastructure
- Experience with HV fast charging systems for electric haul trucks
- Experience maintaining power supply to HME electric fleets
- VSD, submersible pump, and generator fault-finding experience
- Proven experience preparing and executing HV switching programs and isolation plans
- Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to coach, mentor, and support team members
- Relevant OEM training
- Current First Aid, Low Voltage Rescue, and CPR certifications
