Roster: Monday to Friday

 

 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Lead Process Engineer is the discipline team lead responsible for leading, mentoring and managing a team of Process Engineers across the Fortescue R&D project portfolio.

 

 

R&D Lead Process Engineer has experience in scope definition, detail design and commissioning activities of gas processing systems. Suitable applicant shall have previous experience delivering process system design from concept through to implementation phase.

 

 

In this role you will provide technical input to the design and operations of the R&D technology portfolio focused on the delivery, testing and development of integrated systems and processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Process Engineers within the R&D Project Delivery function, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and safety-focused culture
  • Set technical direction, objectives, and performance expectations, managing resource allocation to balance capability, workload, and project priorities
  • Provide technical leadership and assurance for all process engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, HSSE requirements, and industry best practices
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex process engineering challenges and oversee process-driven design development and change management
  • Support multidisciplinary project scope definition and delivery, ensuring process engineering inputs align with schedule, cost, and risk requirements
  • Collaborate effectively with internal disciplines, contractors, consultants, and specialist providers to deliver integrated engineering outcomes
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies in green hydrogen and green iron process system design, promoting innovation and low-carbon solutions
  • Lead process modelling, simulation, optimisation, and equipment sizing activities, including development of operating philosophies, control strategies, specifications, and data sheets
  • Participate in detailed design and technical safety reviews, including HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, and safety-in-design initiatives to uphold a zero-harm commitment
  • Support troubleshooting and optimisation of new and existing process systems, driving adoption of best practices and ensuring compliance with Australian and relevant international standards.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Tertiary engineering qualifications (Chemical / Process Engineering)
  • Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia or Institute of Chemical Engineers and RPEQ preferred
  • Experience with gas processing design in the energy industry and their integration into complex process control systems
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and optimisation experience in the practical application of process system will be advantageous
  • A strong capability in adapting to multidisciplinary requirements and able to communicate a range of Engineering concepts and principles to others effectively
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations associated with process plant designs, especially in hazardous area environments
  • An ability to listen and identify key issues and to articulate complex information clearly
  • Excellent communication skills to initiate and develop relationships with a broad range of people
  • Demonstrated ability to lead own team and influence stakeholders in making key business decisions.
