Roster: 7D7N14R FIFO ex Perth, Busselton, Fitzroy Crossing, Broome, Kununurra, Karratha & Port Hedland
Fortescue is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Light Vehicle Mechanic to join our high-performing team at our Christmas Creek operations. This site-based role operates on a 7 Days, 7 Nights, 14 Days Off roster, offering an excellent work-life balance.
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key leadership role, overseeing a team of Light Vehicle Mechanics while ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance of a diverse fleet of light vehicles. You will provide technical guidance, coordinate daily activities, and drive a strong safety and performance culture across the team.
We’re looking for a safety-focused, trade-qualified professional with proven leadership experience, strong diagnostic capability, and a background in mining or heavy industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a team of Light Vehicle Mechanics to safely deliver planned and breakdown maintenance
- Oversee preventative maintenance and repairs to minimise downtime and maximise fleet reliability
- Provide technical guidance and support, assisting with complex diagnostics and fault finding
- Allocate and monitor daily work to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and in line with priorities
- Promote and uphold site safety standards, ensuring compliance and a strong safety culture
- Support team development through mentoring, training, and effective shift handovers
Qualifications and Experience
- Trade qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic (essential)
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing light vehicles in a mining environment
- Proven leadership or Leading Hand experience, with the ability to supervise and support a team
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills with a commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work autonomously while coordinating team activities and priorities
- Additional skills such as auto electrical, air-conditioning, tyre fitting, wheel alignment, and relevant licences/tickets (desirable)
