Our Opportunity
Location: Cloudbreak. Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.
Roster: 4 Days on / 3 Days Off - FIFO ex Perth
The Operations Planning Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for integrating the technical functions that enable the planning and technical support for safe, reliable and cost-effective mining at Cloudbreak.
Leading mine geology, drill and blast engineering, mine survey, mine laboratory, site geotechnical engineering and mine planning, this role ensures operational plans are accurate, practical and aligned from daily execution through to quarterly planning horizons.
Accountable for planning governance, technical standards, forecast accuracy and cross-functional alignment, the role converts business targets into executable mine plans that support production, quality, safety and cost outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operations mine planning across daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly horizons.
- Provide leadership across mine geology, drill and blast, mine survey, mine laboratory, site geotechnical engineering and mine planning.
- Convert production targets into safe, practical and cost-effective mine plans, schedules and designs.
- Maintain strong governance across mine design, scheduling, grade control, reconciliation, spatial data and operational reporting.
- Manage planning risks, constraints and interfaces across operations, processing, maintenance, contractors and support functions.
- Drive improvement in forecast accuracy, schedule compliance, productivity, quality and cost performance.
- Ensure all plans comply with safety, statutory and technical requirements.
- Build capability, accountability and engagement across a multidisciplinary technical team.
Qualifications and Experience
- 10–15+ years’ experience in open-pit mining, including mine planning, technical services and operational execution.
- Proven leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams across planning, geology, drill and blast, survey, laboratory or geotechnical functions.
- Strong understanding of daily to quarterly mine planning processes in large-scale open-pit operations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop executable mine plans that align safety, production, quality and cost targets.
- Experience in schedule compliance, reconciliation, forecasting and operational performance management.
- Sound knowledge of mine design, grade control, drill and blast, survey, geotechnical risk and ore quality management.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across mining operations, processing, maintenance and contractor teams.
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Surveying or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of Western Australian mining safety and statutory requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, financial and decision-making capability.
