Joining Fortescue as a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Ore Processing & Materials Handling, you will be responsible for providing technical support for OPF (Ore Processing Facility) assets, including conveyors, screens, and crushers. In this role, you will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise to support the design, implementation and maintenance of material handling technologies in the mining and associated heavy industry sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing technical support to our Site Project teams and Reliability teams to ensure materials handling assets are designed and commissioned to the required standards
- Review mechanical package deliverables including datasheets, specifications, Supply data requirements list, drawings, calculations and reports
- Technically evaluate vendor equipment supply proposals
- Coaching and mentoring of junior engineers in the team and maintenance teams across the organisation
- Develop and review sound Engineering Standards & Procedures to govern design and maintenance of Materials Handling Plant
- Providing safety leadership to effectively identify and manage technical risks across Fortescue
- Auditing operations for compliance to standards and procedures, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement
- Working with Projects teams to ensure standards are embedded into project delivery scope
- Regular visits to our Operations in the Pilbara are an expectation of this role

Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer that includes experience in the Mining Industry. Candidates with 15+ years preferred but not essential
- Strong knowledge and practical application of relevant industry codes, Australian Standards, and engineering best practices
- Demonstrated application of mechanical design theories, principles, and engineering practices across mining and resource projects
- Broad exposure to mining and resource sector assets, including process plants and non-process infrastructure
- Experience in minerals processing, pumping systems, and piping design
- Understanding of conveyor design mechanics and associated equipment
- Experience in static and dynamic analysis, including vibration analysis
- Proven capability in engineering analysis, simulation, and interpretation of technical results
- Practical experience across design engineering, project delivery, auditing, and operational environments is highly desirable
- Proficiency with engineering software packages such as Helix, Strand7, ANSYS, Navisworks, and related tools
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent problem-solving capability with a strong focus on continuous improvement
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Strong time management, planning, organisational, scheduling, and coordination capabilities
- Experience across a broad range of assets across the Fortescue supply chain
