Position: Mine Engineer - Drill & Blast

 

Location: Cloudbreak

 

Full-time: Roster: 4/3 (Monday/Thursday) with rotation to 8/6  ( Wednesday/Wednesday ) every 6 months

 

This role is responsible for delivering safe, efficient and compliant drill and blast activities to support operational production targets. The position develops and optimises blast designs, coordinates blasting activities across mining operations and monitors blast performance to improve fragmentation, productivity and operational outcomes.

Working closely with mining, geology, survey, dewatering and planning teams, the role provides technical support across drill and blast operations, supports continuous improvement initiatives and ensures blasting activities are conducted in accordance with safety, heritage and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop drill patterns, blast designs, charging plans and firing sequences to support safe and effective blasting outcomes
  • Coordinate daily and weekly drill and blast activities in line with production targets and schedules
  • Ensure blasting activities comply with site safety standards, risk controls and exclusion zone requirements
  • Work closely with mining, geology, survey, dewatering and planning teams to support blast preparation and execution
  • Monitor and analyse blast performance, including fragmentation, vibration, powder factor, fly rock control and dig rates
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs and optimise blast outcomes
  • Plan and support blasting activities in heritage, vibration-sensitive and operationally sensitive areas
  • Prepare drill and blast plans, reports, production data and technical recommendations for planning and performance reviews

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience in open-pit drill and blast operations, preferably within large-scale mining environments
  • Strong understanding of blast design principles, explosives management, and drill & blast optimisation
  • Experience with mine planning and blasting software such as Alastri, View-Shot, and Vulcan
  • Knowledge of vibration and fly rock control in sensitive blasting areas
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary mining teams
  • Previous experience in iron ore operations and heritage-sensitive blasting environments is advantageous
