Our Opportunity
Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Mine Geologist to join our Operations Planning team at Solomon Operations. This permanent position is an 8&6 roster, with a highly competitive remuneration package.
Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the focus of your role is to ensure that all mine geology functions are carried out to a high standard, ensuring the safe, efficient and accurate achievement of mine production targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Display safe behaviours and safety leadership.
- Provide timely and accurate geological dig plans, using all available data.
- Provide guidance to operations planning and mining in order to maximise ore recovery and minimise dilution.
- Daily inspections of all active mining faces and ROM stockpiles.
- Drive all aspects of operational mining hygiene and best practice.
- Provide training and mentoring to geological technician roles.
- Support Senior Mine Geologist in meeting company objectives.
- Maintaining key stakeholder relationships.
- Ensure compliance to the Fortescue standards and statutory obligations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in a similar role in open pit or underground mining.
- Previous experience as a geologist within Iron Ore is desirable.
- Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Fundamental mine geology and reconciliation knowledge.
- Solid working knowledge of Vulcan and MS Office.
- Strong planning, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic. Willing to take on new challenges and learn new skills.
- SQL, data management and database experience is desirable.
- Current WA C-Class driving licence.
