Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth based, with frequent site visits to Energy Operations sites. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: 5D2R - Monday to Friday
We are seeking an experienced and driven Planning Superintendent to lead our maintenance planning and scheduling function to safely deliver world class availability and reliability to meet the present and future needs of our operational requirements. This role is critical in aligning short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance execution plans with business objectives, driving efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement across our operations.
Reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Manager, you will lead, mentor, and guide a team of Senior Planners, Long Term Maintenance Planners, and Maintenance Planners across Energy Operations. This includes our existing power generation and network assets – thermal power stations, transmission and distribution – and, by 2028, the Pilbara green grid comes together adding 1.2GW of solar, over 600MW of wind, and 4–5GWh of battery storage, all integrated across our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary planning team (Senior, Long Term, Shutdown, Weekly Planners and Schedulers) to deliver high-quality, executable work plans and accurate budget forecasts
- Drive compliance with the Fortescue Asset Management Standard and embed best-practice planning and work management processes
- Define and maintain clear planning accountabilities and KPI’s across long-term, shutdown, and weekly horizons, ensuring key milestones are delivered and tracked
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, energy modelling and integrated planning teams to optimise planning outcomes
- Ensure effective development, management and reporting of OPEX and CAPEX budgets
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across planning processes, systems, and asset management practices
- Maintain compliance with all safety, statutory, and company standards in planning activities
- Oversee master data integrity and work management and shutdown planning processes
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Maintenance or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Extensive maintenance planning and scheduling experience in mining, energy or heavy industry
- Leadership experience in a supervisory or superintendent role
- Strong knowledge of CMMS and supporting platforms (e.g. SAP, Anaplan)
- Experience managing high-performing teams, driving accountability through KPI frameworks and delivering consistent results
- Experience in shutdown planning and execution
- Sound understanding of reliability principles and asset management
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Experience aligning multi-counter plans and energy dispatch models for accurate maintenance scheduling and budget forecasting
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Project management experience, including budgeting, cost control and reporting (desirable)
