Job Title: Principal Category Management

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday-Friday

As Principal Category Management - you are someone who is engaging, honest, enthusiastic, and willing to step up to the challenge of being part of an innovative and achievement driven organisation.

The purpose of this role is to provide specialist procurement advice and leadership across Fortescue’s fixed plant categories. The Principal Category Management is also a key business partner for the Iron Bridge management team, leading the development and execution of procurement strategies that align with operational objectives. The role will also provide leadership and direction to team members across the fixed plant category.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with Contracts & Procurement leadership, and the Iron Bridge team, to develop strategic business plans to support operational objectives.
• Lead the development of category management strategies for fixed plant equipment and services.
• Lead the development and execution of strategic sourcing strategies, including market engagement, supplier evaluation and end-to-end sourcing processes that deliver enhanced commercial outcomes and innovative solutions.
• Lead the development and execution of contracting and negotiation strategies for complex, high risk and high value arrangements, including the preparation and negotiation of commercial terms that drive value for Fortescue and its supplier partners.
• Lead the management of disputes and claims, including the development of commercial strategies, assessment of contractual positions, negotiation of resolutions and escalation of material risks where required.
• Supplier relationship management (SRM) - deliver value through effective management of strategic supplier relationships at a senior or Executive level and actively articulate and demonstrate the value of SRM in the business.
• Guide, direct and mentor team members in end-to-end contract management, sourcing and supplier performance activities.
• Ensure business objectives are met through effective governance, compliance management, analysis and reporting, and the identification, assessment and treatment of procurement and supply chain risks.
• Create and maintain credible and trusting relationships with internal stakeholders at a senior management level, including Operations, Asset Management, Engineering, Finance and Legal.

Qualifications and Experience

• Significant, demonstrable experience in a senior procurement or category management role, ideally with 7-10 years’ experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Previous experience and understanding of fixed plant maintenance, operational processes and the commercial requirements of mining operations is highly regarded.
• Strong drafting, commercial analysis and negotiation skills, with experience leading complex, high risk and high value sourcing and contracting activities.
• Strong understanding of contract terms and conditions, including the ability to negotiate independently on matters such as liability, warranties, intellectual property, performance obligations, disputes and claims.
• Demonstrated leadership capability, including the capacity to guide, mentor and develop category specialists and other procurement team members.
• Demonstrated alignment to Fortescue’s values, strong organisational skills, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities while building effective relationships with senior stakeholders. Experience with SAP, Ivalua, Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable.
• A degree or postgraduate qualification in Business, Commerce, Law, Engineering or a similar discipline is desirable.
