Our Opportunity

 

Work Location:  Perth CBD, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster:  Monday to Friday (with site travel)

 

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Principal Management Accountant to join a fast paced, dynamic work environment to support Mining Operations. This role partners closely with operational leadership to drive financial performance, provide strategic insight, and support informed decision-making across mining sites.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Business partner with Mining Operations teams and site leadership to effectively manage and improve financial performance.
  • Support the delivery of Annual Budgets and Quarterly Forecasts across Operating and Capital Expenditure.
  • Contribute to month-end close activities, including analysis, reporting, and variance explanations.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives across site to deliver cost savings.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to deliver timely, actionable financial insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial systems, reporting, and data quality, driving standardisation and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and Fortescue accounting policies.
  • Lead and develop team capability to deliver high-quality financial outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Management Accounting and/or Finance Business Partnering roles.
  • Operational or site-based mining experience strongly preferred.
  • CPA or CA qualification required.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in management reporting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Broad understanding of governance, internal controls, and financial compliance.
  • Experience with SAP (Finance modules) and Anaplan.
  • Ability to identify and interpret key operational and financial drivers across multiple business units.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive change in complex operational environments.
  • Excellent analytical capability with strong attention to detail.
  • Highly effective communicator with the ability to engage across operations, leadership, and corporate teams.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading teams and driving high performance.
