Roster: Monday to Friday

*This role will be offered on a permanent/full-time basis, but with part time option available for discussion

 

Join the Perth-based Water Planning team to provide high quality support to the Solomon and Eliwana Iron Ore Hubs with groundwater management planning and hydrogeological investigations. The Solomon and Eliwana Hubs are established mines that present technical water management challenges across a diverse range of West Pilbara groundwater systems. The role, which would be ideal for an intermediate level Hydrogeologist, will primarily assist with effective development, coordination and delivery of drilling and project scopes executed by site teams while also providing periodic assessment of aquifer responses to abstraction and/or injection to improve water planning, and fulfil regulatory requirements.

 

Reporting to the Senior Hydrogeologist, the position requires excellent communication, time management and determination to develop the technical skills required to help ensure robust hydrogeological assessments are completed on time, knowledge is gained and outcomes are effectively communicated to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respect and consider environmental and heritage values in all aspects of work
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties
  • Develop scope of work documents for drilling and testing to meet scheduled timeframes
  • Conduct scope handover meetings with site hydrogeologists and incorporate any feedback into revisions to the scope of works
  • Assist with any technical queries during drilling and testing process
  • Ensure key drilling outcomes are disseminated to relevant parties. This may involve update of relevant conceptualisations and models(i.e. Leapfrog)
  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure data management and quality is maintained
  • Assess hydrogeological responses to abstraction and injection for the purpose of conceptualisation and adaptive management
  • Compile and assist with hydrogeological reporting as required for investigations and regulatory commitments

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification in Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology or Geosciences. MSc in Hydrogeology preferred
  • Experience in or ability to demonstrate an understanding of mine water management and/or water bore drilling
  • Knowledge of hydrogeological software packages
  • Strong data management and manipulation skills
  • Effective communication & time management skills
  • Strong team skills and a willingness to conduct short site trips on occasion
