Project Senior Engineer

Our Opportunity

Location: Fortescue’s Solomon mine, located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples

Roster: 4D3R

We’re looking for an experienced and driven Senior Project Engineer to lead a project team and deliver a diverse portfolio of CAPEX projects at Solomon.

This is a key leadership role for someone who thrives on turning plans into outcomes. You’ll set the direction for your team, bring together stakeholders across the operation, and drive projects from concept through to completion — with safety, value and disciplined delivery at the forefront.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a project team to deliver a portfolio of CAPEX projects, setting clear priorities, expectations and accountability.
  • Drive portfolio performance across scheduling, forecasting, cost control and expenditure to enable safe, efficient and value-focused delivery.
  • Own project visibility, providing clear and timely reporting on progress, risks, costs and schedules to leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Shape the forward pipeline through long-term project planning, future works development and effective contract management.
  • Maximise project value by developing robust business cases and challenging scope, estimates and budgets to identify efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Lead projects end-to-end, from concept, planning and design through execution, handover and close-out, partnering closely with Operations, Maintenance, Shutdowns, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams while maintaining strong safety and governance standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience delivering multidisciplinary projects, ideally within a complex mining, resources or heavy-industry environment.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to guide, develop and align project teams across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Project management qualification, supported by strong project, commercial and organisational capability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, is preferred.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence across Operations, Maintenance, contractors and cross-functional teams.
  • Sound commercial judgement and problem-solving capability, with a strong commitment to safety, governance, continuous improvement and value creation.
