Reliability Specialist - Ancillary

Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people
Roster: Monday to Friday
This role acts as the technical lead for reliability and engineering performance across a designated Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) fleet. The Reliability Specialist is responsible for driving sustainable improvements in equipment reliability, leveraging data, engineering principles and cross-functional collaboration to optimise asset performance and lifecycle value.
Working closely with site teams, OEMs and internal stakeholders, the position plays a critical role in shaping maintenance strategies, leading reliability initiatives and embedding continuous improvement practices across the business. The role also serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and technical support to enhance operational efficiency, safety and cost outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and continuously improve maintenance strategies based on asset history and OEM recommendations
- Lead reliability improvement initiatives, including maintenance strategy reviews and optimisation projects
- Analyse asset performance data to identify trends, recurring issues and opportunities for defect elimination
- Conduct and support root cause analysis (RCA) and other reliability methodologies to resolve equipment failures
- Ensure accuracy, governance and effective utilisation of SAP reliability and maintenance data
- Engage with OEMs and external vendors to address performance issues and drive continuous improvement
- Collaborate with site-based maintenance and reliability teams to support execution and resolve key issues
- Monitor compliance with asset management standards, maintenance strategies and regulatory requirements
- Develop lifecycle and cost optimisation strategies to maximise asset value and performance
- Identify and implement initiatives to improve safety, production efficiency and maintenance effectiveness
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (essential)
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance and reliability engineering within a mobile equipment environment
- Exposure to multiple OEMs and site-based operational experience
- Strong knowledge of asset management principles and maintenance strategies
- Experience with SAP or other Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems
- Familiarity with reliability methodologies such as FMECA, RCA, RCM, LCC and Lean Six Sigma (desirable)
- Proven ability to analyse complex problems and apply structured, logical solutions
- Strong project management capability with experience delivering improvement initiatives
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence outcomes
- High level of organisation, time management and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
