Our Opportunity

 

Work Location:  Fortescue’s Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama people.

 

Roster:  8D/6R - FIFO ex Perth

 

We are seeking an experienced Geologist to support near-mine exploration activities across the Pilbara. You will provide daily supervision of RC drilling operations, oversee geological and assay data management, and ensure high standards of sample quality, logging and QAQC.

 

The role will contribute to the identification and progression of exploration targets, including stratigraphy, downhole gamma and texture logging of RC chips. You will also help drive innovation within the team while promoting strong safety behaviours and effective collaboration.

 

The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in Geoscience and have experience with geological databases and software such as ArcGIS, Leapfrog, Vulcan, CorePlan, acQuire or Anvil. Knowledge of Pilbara geology, iron ore mineralogy and geological logging requirements is highly regarded.

 

You will be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, have strong communication skills, a current C Class manual driver’s licence, 4WD experience and a current First Aid Certificate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and be a role model for safety behaviours
  • Daily supervision of RC drill rig
  • Assay and geological data management, internal QAQC, data collection/validation
  • High quality stratigraphy, downhole gamma and texture logging of RC chips
  • Ensuring sample quality on the rigs
  • Rationalisation and progression of near mine exploration targets
  • Drawing on experience to help drive innovation within the team

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary degree in Geoscience
  • Exposure to Arc GIS, Leapfrog, Vulcan
  • Experienced in the use of geological database systems (Coreplan, acQuire, Anvil)
  • Knowledge of Pilbara geology and different mineralisation styles
  • Understanding of iron ore minerology / textures
  • Fundamental knowledge of chip logging requirements (Logging, QAQC, use of Downhole Geophysics)
  • Can work both autonomously with minimal supervision and as part of a large team excellent communication skills
  • Full C class, manual drivers licence
  • Operate and maintain a 4WD
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Strong interpersonal skills
