Work Location: This role supports Fortescue’s flagship Cloudbreak mine, located on Palyku and Nyiyaparli Country, and Christmas Creek mine, located on Nyiyaparli Country.

It’s an exciting time to join the Fortescue Family. We are seeking an experienced and passionate communications professional to join our team as a Senior Communications Specialist.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape workforce engagement across two of Fortescue’s flagship Pilbara operations during a period of operational transformation and industry-leading decarbonisation.
Partnering closely with site leadership teams and Perth-based communications specialists, you will deliver strategic, high-impact communications that connect, inform and inspire our operational workforce.
With a strong focus on engagement and clarity, you will develop and deliver communications that support business priorities, strengthen culture and values, and help our people feel informed, connected and empowered.
This is a dynamic and hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will lead end-to-end communication planning, channel and content improvement initiatives, and the delivery of written, visual, digital and verbal communications that support both site-specific and broader business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and continuously improve a range of internal communication channels and content platforms
- Partner closely with site leadership teams and Perth communications colleagues as a trusted advisor
- Develop strategic communication plans and messaging that simplify complex or sensitive issues for a frontline and transient workforce
- Deliver engaging and audience-focused communications that support operational priorities, team engagement and business outcomes
- Evaluate communication effectiveness and engagement metrics to drive continuous improvement
- Support stakeholder engagement activities and significant onsite events
- Promote Fortescue’s iron ore operations and decarbonisation initiatives through compelling storytelling across internal and external channels
- Protect and enhance Fortescue’s reputation through effective crisis communications, change communications, incident management and strategic advice
- Ensure all communications align with Fortescue’s Values, brand standards, communications frameworks and market disclosure requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in internal communications, with additional experience in media, public relations, content creation or events highly regarded
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related discipline such as journalism, public relations or digital communications
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships at all levels of the business
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience tailoring content for different channels and audiences
- Strong organisational and project management capability, with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced operational environment
- Experience working with frontline or transient workforces is highly regarded
- Understanding of mining operations and/or green energy industries is desirable
- Proficiency in communications and content platforms such as SharePoint, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, or similar tools
