Senior Data Scientist (Performance Measurement)

The key mission of this role will be to deliver analytical methods to sharpen the feedback loop between operational performance and AI systems development, ensuring our AI systems deliver measurable improvements to operations productivity.
This role is suited to experienced individual contributors who deliver autonomously in a range of settings. It would suit candidates coming from a range of backgrounds, including operational performance analysis, or data science with experience in heavy industrial operations. Regardless of background, the right candidate will bring a strong ability to analyse operational performance, define novel analytical methods, models and approaches to measure and validate performance changes, and to engage with AI development and operational planning & analysis teams to communicate insights and identify opportunities to improve these methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Development of analytical methods to measure operational performance changes and validate attribution across multiple initiatives
- Collaborating with domain SMEs to share insights, investigate alternative perspectives, and refine measurement methods
- Working closely with AI development teams to share model and operational performance insights
- Prototype AI-supported analysis workflows, using agentic methods to accelerate and scale robust analysis methods
- Supporting community development through technical engagement and leadership on data science topics
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in data science or operational analytics
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, science or a related field, or equivalent experience in operational analytics in heavy industrial environments
- Practical experience in data science tools, including Python and SQL
- Experience in applying statistics to operational performance analysis, including causal inference, multi-factor analysis and experimental design
- Experience in multi-disciplinary teams, particularly business and technology
- Ability to effectively communicate analysis methods and insights
- (Optional) Experience in generative AI methods and technologies, including agents and LLMs, to support analytical workflows
