Senior Data Scientist

The key mission of this role will be to drive the development of AI solutions & systems that transform our master data management, reliability and work management functions. Success in this mission is the delivery of measurable improvements in the cost, reliability and productivity of assets across our integrated operations.
This role is suited to experienced individual contributors who deliver autonomously in a range of settings. It would suit candidates coming from a range of backgrounds, including asset management systems, reliability engineering, or data science with experience in operational decision-support systems. Regardless of background, the right candidate will bring a strong ability to analyse operational performance, define analytical and generative AI methods, models and approaches to improve performance, and to build and deploy these into operations. This role will be in a forward-deployed team, with a focus on accelerated development of new products in multi-disciplinary teams in close partnership with operational users.
Key Responsibilities
- Owning the design, build, deployment and support of AI and analytics workflows across the product development lifecycle.
- Helping identify, quantify and validate efficiency and opportunities, using data from a range of sources.
- Collaborating with domain SMEs and users to shape technical requirements.
- Working closely with front-line and operational support teams to test, validate and refine models to support adoption and operational impact.
- Maintaining the backlogs for development and collaborating with cross-functional teams to prioritise development.
- Supporting community development through technical engagement and leadership on data science and AI topics.
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, AI systems development or machine learning within the asset management domain.
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience developing AI systems in heavy industrial environments.
- Practical experience in data science tools and technologies, including Python.
- Experience in applying statistics and machine learning in operations, including causal inference and experimental design.
- Experience in generative AI methods and technologies, including agents, LLMs, methods for embedding domain knowledge and evaluating performance.
- Experience in multi-disciplinary teams, particularly business and technology.
- Ability to translate complex data sources and technical issues into requirements.
