Roster: Monday to Friday – Ad-hoc international travel will be required 

 

 

 

Fortescue has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager to join its Perth based Corporate Development team. The role sits within the Metals and Mining team and is focused on high grade iron ore expansion and critical minerals growth, with a clear emphasis on copper.

 

 

 

Over the past 18 months, the Metals and Mining Corporate Development team has successfully executed two highly value accretive public takeovers. These include ASX listed Red Hawk, a Pilbara iron ore developer, and TSX listed Alta Copper, owner of the Cañariaco copper project in Peru.

 

 

 

The team is now focused on building this momentum through additional disciplined, high quality global growth opportunities.

 

 

 

Role Overview

 

 

 

As Senior Manager Corporate Development, you will lead the identification, evaluation and execution of complex transactions across high grade iron ore and copper focused opportunities.

 

 

 

The role reports directly to the Group Manager Corporate Development and works closely with other Managers within the function. You will lead a small team of junior professionals and act as a trusted right hand to the Group Manager, helping to shape deal strategy, prioritisation and execution. While the team operates within a flat and collaborative structure, this role carries clear leadership responsibility and requires ownership from origination through to completion.

 

 

 

You will take responsibility for detailed financial evaluation, transaction structuring and preparation of investment recommendations. The role demands strong commercial judgement, absolute attention to detail and the confidence to challenge assumptions and test complex technical and financial inputs.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Proactively identifying and originating high quality iron ore and copper opportunities through market engagement, industry networks and continuous assessment of global merger and acquisition activity
  • Setting transaction strategy and leading global corporate development opportunities from initial screening through to execution
  • Structuring complex transactions to unlock value, including development of innovative commercial solutions and allocation of risk across counterparties
  • Leading comprehensive technical, commercial and jurisdictional assessment of opportunities, forming independent judgement on asset quality, risk profile and strategic fit
  • Directing financial modelling, valuation and capital structuring to support disciplined capital allocation decisions
  • Preparing and presenting clear, defensible investment recommendations to the Investment Committee, CEO and Executive Leadership
  • Leading negotiations with counterparties and overseeing execution and financial close in collaboration with Legal, Finance and other internal stakeholders
  • Providing leadership within a flat team structure, mentoring junior professionals while maintaining accountability for analytical quality and transaction outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline are required. Postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded
  • Significant experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity or transaction advisory within natural resources is required
  • Demonstrated track record executing complex mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures or strategic investments
  • Advanced financial modelling capability within capital intensive industries
  • Strong commercial instinct and ability to translate complexity into clear investment recommendations
  • High level of attention to detail and personal accountability for quality of analysis
    Confident and credible communicator with executive presence.
