Senior Mining Engineer - Medium Term Planning

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to lead onsite Mine Design and Project Planning activities at our Iron Bridge Magnetite Operation. This is a technically challenging and high-impact role, responsible for delivering mine designs, governing planning systems and processes, and ensuring projects are aligned with mine plans, budgets, and key milestones.
Reporting to the Superintendent Medium Term Planning, you will lead and mentor a small onsite team while working closely with stakeholders across operations and corporate functions to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant mining outcomes
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of mine designs and project planning (pits, dumps, infrastructure) aligned to Life of Mine and medium-term plans
- Manage mining projects including scoping, prioritisation, scheduling, and cost estimation
- Track and forecast project performance against mine plans, budgets, and critical milestones
- Oversee design governance systems, including approvals, registers, databases, and planning processes
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities across Life of Mine, 2–10 year, and short-term plans
- Mentor and develop a team of mining engineers while collaborating with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of strategic plans and regulatory approvals (e.g. MDCP)
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience (6+ years) in mine planning and design within open-cut hard rock operations
- Strong leadership capability with the ability to mentor teams and work autonomously onsite
- Demonstrated experience in project management, cost estimation, and cross-functional collaboration
- Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g. Vulcan; Alastri desirable) and strong analytical capability
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with a commitment to HSEC standards and continuous improvement
