Senior Process Control Engineer

Location: Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.

The Senior Process Control Engineer is a site-based leadership role responsible for driving plant optimisation and delivering safe, reliable and sustainable production outcomes within a complex mining/material handling environment. You will lead throughput improvement initiatives, reduce downtime events and maintain control system integrity across PLC, SCADA, communications and OT infrastructure. The role provides technical leadership and mentoring to the Process Control team, leads root cause investigations into operational delays, and applies data-driven analysis to identify and eliminate process inefficiencies while supporting the integration of new instrumentation and control system technologies to enhance overall plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical direction and strategic guidance to the Process Control team
- Mentor and develop engineers to uplift capability in advanced control, troubleshooting and system design
- Establish engineering standards, documentation quality and best-practice frameworks
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous learning
- Lead plant optimisation initiatives to improve throughput, reliability and overall plant utilisation
- Lead investigations into operational delays and downtime events, including root cause analysis (RCA)
- Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot control system assets (PLCs, SCADA, communications, instrumentation, servers, remote I/O)
- Support and deliver control system projects, including integration of new instrumentation and equipment
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic or Computer Engineering and current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in mining, material handling or processing industries
- Extensive experience with control system software (GE/Emerson Machine Edition/PPS, Cimplicity SCADA, Proficy Historian & Change Management, Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley RSLogix 500/500, GE/Emerson HMI)
- Strong experience with PLC hardware (RX3i, RSTi I/O, Siemens, Allen Bradley) and industrial communication protocols (Profibus/Profinet, EGD, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Strong understanding of IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages (LD, FBD, ST, IL, SFC) and PLC data structures (UDFB, UDT)
