Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 8D/6R 

Reporting to the Shutdown Superintendent, this is a critical leadership role responsible for the safe and successful delivery of large-scale shutdowns within a technically complex magnetite processing operation.

You will facilitate the technical planning and execution of major 240-hour and modular 288-hour shutdowns involving up to 1,200 personnel across multi-discipline maintenance, projects, and inspection scopes. Your leadership will directly influence plant availability, asset reliability, and production performance.

During shutdown execution, you will provide technical quality assurance by verifying work is completed in accordance with approved procedures, critical settings and measurements are correctly applied, and all required quality documentation and signoffs are completed before equipment is returned to service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate shutdown readiness in line with the 16-week planning process, collaborating across Engineering, Maintenance, Planning and Operations.
  • Ensure all shutdown work packs contain accurate technical documentation, procedures, drawings and commissioning requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical risks, documentation gaps and quality issues before shutdown execution.
  • Provide technical support during shutdowns, ensuring maintenance activities comply with engineering standards and approved procedures.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections and verify technical sign-offs, commissioning requirements and equipment readiness before handback.
  • Manage vendor performance to ensure work is delivered safely, to specification and in line with maintenance standards.
  • Drive reliability and continuous improvement through defect elimination, lessons learned and enhanced shutdown documentation and processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in fixed plant maintenance, technical planning, engineering support or shutdown coordination within a heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance work management processes, quality assurance and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in high-pressure, time-critical environments.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, OEM documentation and maintenance procedures.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Engineering, Maintenance, Planning and Operations stakeholders to deliver technically robust maintenance outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify technical risks, documentation gaps and quality issues.
  • Experience undertaking quality assurance activities, technical verification and maintenance compliance within a shutdown or maintenance environment.
  • Proficient in SAP and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Mechanical trade qualification is essential for this position.
  • Engineering background highly regarded.
