Solutions Architect
Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people
Roster: Monday to Friday
Fortescue’s Custom Solutions team is expanding, and we are looking for an experienced AWS Cloud Architect with strong .NET development expertise to help us build high-performance, cloud-native solutions that support critical operations across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on technical leader who can design cloud architecture, contribute directly to application development, and drive DevOps excellence across our platforms.
As an AWS Cloud Architect / DevOps Engineer (with .NET development focus), you will design, implement, and support our cloud infrastructure while playing a key role in developing applications and services within our product ecosystem.
You will work closely with our in-house development teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient software, leveraging your experience in AWS, DevOps, and strong .NET development to shape high-quality solutions end-to-end.
The ideal candidate is a builder: someone who is as comfortable writing .NET code as they are designing AWS architectures, automating deployments, and optimising performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement secure, scalable AWS cloud solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Apply best-practice cloud architecture patterns to support high-availability and cost-efficient workloads.
- Contribute directly to application and service development using C#/.NET.
- Build, extend, and support APIs, integrations, microservices, and backend components.
- Collaborate with full-stack developers to design end-to-end solutions.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and release management.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Use containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift) to deliver modern application workflows.
- Configure robust monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to maintain service health.
- Optimise cloud application performance and troubleshoot issues across the stack.
- Demonstrated ability to guide development teams in applying technical standards and governance, while advising leadership on solution design, architectural direction, and prioritisation of technical debt.
- Skilled at balancing long-term platform integrity with delivery objectives through clear, well-informed technical decision-making.
- Partner with developers, QA, analysts, PMs, and security teams to streamline delivery.
- Promote DevOps culture, automation, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
- Maintain technical documentation and run knowledge-sharing sessions.
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years in cloud architecture, DevOps, or cloud-native solution engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline (or relevant experience).
- Cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, etc.) highly regarded.
- Proven delivery of AWS-based solutions.
- Solid industry experience in backend or full-stack development using C#/.NET.
- Exposure to enterprise environments such as mining, resources, logistics, or industrial systems (advantageous).
- Strong proficiency in .NET / C#, API development, backend services, and integration patterns.
- Deep experience with AWS services (Lambda, Step Functions, EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, IAM, etc.).
- Competency with CI/CD tools: GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar.
- Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk).
- Solid understanding of networking, security controls, and cloud governance.
- Working knowledge of Agile delivery frameworks.
- OpenShift experience is desirable.
