*This role will be offered as a 12-month secondment/maximum-term contract as parental leave coverage

 

The Contracts and Procurement Global Strategic Sourcing team is responsible leveraging volume and Fortescue’s global footprint to unlock competitive advantage, mitigate supply risk and lead strategic supplier relationship management.

 

The Strategic Procurement Lead – Solar leads the development and execution of sourcing strategies for Fortescue’s solar portfolio, ensuring access to competitive, innovative, and sustainable solar solutions that support business and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the solar category sourcing strategy.
  • Lead end-to-end procurement activities, including tendering, evaluation, and award of solar module packages for project-specific and strategic engagements.
  • Identify, assess, and secure next-generation solar module technologies, supporting trials, supplier partnerships, and commercial strategies to enable future supply.
  • Identify, assess, and secure innovative, low-cost solar installation solutions (including automation and prefabrication), supporting Fortescue solar innovation program trials, supplier partnerships, and commercial strategies for large scale deployment.
  • Establish and maintain strategic supplier relationships, including engagement with Fortescue’s existing solar equipment providers, management of framework agreements, and ongoing market assessment for new partners.
  • Apply a best practice approach to governance, compliance, and sustainability, including due diligence, mitigation and remediation, and continuous monitoring of solar supply chains to maintain traceability.
  • Provide solar market insights, analytics, and strategic advice to inform procurement decisions and business planning.
  • Support executive-level supplier engagement, including preparation of briefing materials, memorandums of understanding, and strategic agreements.
  • Lead and ensure team compliance with Contracts and Procurement policies and procedures, while driving continuous improvement in procurement processes and practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 8+ years’ experience in contracting and procurement, preferably within major projects or category management in energy or infrastructure.
  • Experience with solar equipment contracts or renewable energy projects is advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with SAP and/or Ivalua is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in commerce, business, law or engineering.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Experience leading complex negotiations and delivering high-value commercial outcomes.
  • Self-motivated with strong ownership and accountability for outcomes and deliverables.
  • Highly collaborative, with strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to simplify complexity and provide clear, commercially sound recommendations.
  • Innovative mindset with a focus on cost savings and value creation.
