Work Location: Perth CBD office, on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Roster: 2 Days On / 3 Nights On / 4 Days Off | 3 Days On /2 Nights On / 5 Days Off | 2 Days On / 2 Nights On / 5 Days Off
We’re seeking an experienced Advanced Train Controller to join our high-performing Port Hedland Operations team, based in our state-of-the-art Fortescue Centre in Perth.
In this critical role, you’ll be at the heart of Fortescue’s rail operations—coordinating movements across one of the most dynamic heavy haul rail networks in the world. Your decisions will directly impact safety, efficiency, and production outcomes across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Control and optimise train movements across the rail network to maximise efficiency and throughput
- Develop and maintain accurate train plans and train graphs (24+ hours in advance)
- Collaborate closely with port, mine, and maintenance teams to align operational priorities
- Monitor live operations and proactively manage disruptions, delays, and constraints
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance network performance
- Provide strong safety leadership, ensuring compliance with all rail, environmental, and heritage requirements
- Coach and mentor team members, supporting a capable and high-performing team
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as a Train Controller, ideally within heavy haul rail operations
- Strong knowledge of manual and electronic train control systems
- Solid understanding of Safe Working Procedures and radio communication protocols
- Ability to make confident decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving capability
- Proficiency with operational systems and Microsoft-based tools
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work autonomously
