Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster:  8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth or Residential - Port Hedland

 

Fortescue is seeking an Balance Machine Engineer to support our Port Hedland operations by delivering high-quality assurance of Machine Risk Management Plans (MRMPs). This role plays a critical part in improving asset reliability, ensuring statutory and site compliance, and prioritising fault rectification to effectively manage machine risk.

Working closely with Maintenance, Reliability, and relevant contractors during execution, you will provide strong technical expertise both in-situ and through engineering review, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop MRMP procedures, work instructions, checklists, and supporting documentation
  • Develop, implement, and administer site Machine Risk Management Plans (MRMPs)
  • Administer the Machine Book, including uploading, updating, controlling, and maintaining documentation
  • Ensure SAP Master Data Requests are raised and maintained to support MRMP implementation
  • Coordinate team-based reviews of faults, non-conformances, inspector condition ratings, and risk prioritisation
  • Report on MRMP activities, findings, and performance
  • Liaise with Maintenance to ensure only approved contractors are engaged for inspections and critical machine work
  • Engage and manage MRMP contractors to deliver inspection and assurance activities
  • Coordinate cleaning, inspection, and maintenance works associated with MRMP inspections
  • Ensure compliance with Fortescue document control standards, including document creation, review, approval, revision, and controlled issue
  • Make arrangements for any necessary team based review of faults, non-conformances, inspector condition and risk ratings, and fault rectification prioritisation so as to appropriately manage machine risk.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Mechanical or electrical engineering qualification
  • Demonstrated experience conducting statutory inspections on large mobile machines
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Australian Standards, and heavy equipment compliance
  • Experience with stackers, reclaimers, and shiploaders or similar bulk materials handling equipment
  • High attention to detail with strong documentation and reporting capability
  • Confident communicator able to engage with site and leadership teams
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills
